Penn Station Athlete of the Month for May, 2018 – Sarah Willis

Congratulations to Sarah Willis of Eaton High School, the Penn Station Athlete of the Month for May, 2018!

Sarah is the daughter of Kathy and Mark Willis and the sister of Cameron Willis.  She notes her mother as being her role model.  Sarah has a 4.1 G.P.A. and plans on attending Penn State University and competing on the women’s golf team where she’s been admitted into the Penn State Smeal College of Business.

Sarah said, “Golf is an individual sport, and I enjoyed being a part of a team sport in high school.  I enjoyed the opportunity to challenge myself by competing against the boys and representing my high school.  I spent a lot of time on the golf course growing up.  I used to wear my soccer shoes to the driving range when I was 5 and pretend they were golf shoes.  My dad had some plastic clubs that I started out with, and I gradually moved up to a small set of cut-down golf clubs.  Golf is a big part of my family.”

Sarah’s extracurricular activities include:  Class secretary and student council, Project MORE, Project Charlie Peer Leader, Freshman Focus Leads, Tri Hi Y, Green Team Science Club, NHS, YMCA Counselor.  Her favorite book is Harry Potter, her favorite sports role model is Lebron James and she loves “The Italian” sandwich at the Penn Station in Englewood.

Sarah says her greatest achievement so far is her two Ohio state records in girls’ golf and her winning back-to-back state championships.  In 2017, she broke the All-Division two-day scoring record with a 68-68, and this year she broke the All-Division one-day scoring record with a 67.  She is also the first girl to win the Boys SWBL Conference championship.

Coach Randy Titkemeyer said “Her work ethic and drive for success have allowed her to reach this point.  She is not only a great athlete, but also a young lady of high character.  Sarah’s biggest successes are ahead of her.”

Principal Scott Couch added “Sarah is a student who works extremely hard in the classroom and on the golf course.  She is very deserving of her accomplishments, and through her dedication, there will be many additional awards.  The students and staff of EHS wish to congratulate and wish Sarah the best of luck.”
