Does Madonna's biopic need a new co-writer?

Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images for GLAADMadonna has been working hard on her upcoming biopic with Diablo Cody, the Oscar-winning writer of the movie Juno and the Alanis Morissette Broadway musical Jagged Little Pill.  But now a British tabloid is claiming that Cody has left the project due to creative differences.

An “insider” told The Sun, “Madonna and Diablo spent weeks working on the screenplay and made good progress. But Madonna is understandably very particular about how she wants it to be. She’s a perfectionist and because it is about her life; she is being very careful about how things come across.”

The so-called insider added, “Diablo needed more freedom to be able to make it work and ultimately decided she couldn’t contribute any more.”

Now the studio is allegedly looking for a new writer, but the insider says Madonna won’t compromise: “[She] doesn’t need the money and isn’t going to let a movie get made which she doesn’t feel is authentic to her experiences.”

Of course, this is a report in a British tabloid, so take it with a grain of salt.

So far, little is known about the project, including who will star in it and when it’ll start filming. Madonna posted tons of footage of herself and Cody working on the project last year.
