The American Heart Association (AHA) and CYCLEBAR are hosting an outdoor stationary cycling event on Saturday August 25 from 3 – 7 pm at the Park at Austin Landing. CYCLEBAR will provide spinning bikes and instructors or “CycleStars” to lead each of three paid 45-minute sessions. There is also a special survivor “Tribute” ride, which will begin at 3:15 and will be offered at no charge to all heart and stroke survivors.
“Cycling is one way to get heart and brain healthy,” said Kim Chesnut, development director for the Miami Valley Division of the American Heart Association. “It strengthens heart muscles, lowers resting pulse, and reduces blood fat levels. We are excited to partner with CYCLEBAR on this fun event.”
The CycleNation movement empowers a nation to use bikes to help all Americans get healthy, while raising funds to continue vital community programs that will forever and finally change the course of stroke and heart disease. It is the next step in continuing the health revolution. Stroke is the No. 5 killer of all Americans and No. 1 cause of disability — and heart disease is STILL the No. 1 killer. There is no quick fix, no easy way to instantly create a healthier community. Funds raised through this event will benefit the AHA mission: to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.
The Ride for Your Heart event is family friendly and open to everyone. In addition to the bike rides, there will be live entertainment, health screenings and food available. American Heart Association Healthy for Good Sponsor Kettering Health Network will also be presenting The Red Couch Tour throughout this event, during which anyone is invited to sit on the red couch and take a “healthy selfie” with their friends and family members and post to social media accounts.
