Congratulations to Nyla Hampton of Wayne High School, the Penn Station Athlete of the Month for January, 2020!

Nyla is a basketball player and holds a 3.9 GPA. She’s the daughter of Mikeyoun and Jamar Shackelford. Besides basketball, Nyla enjoys reading, photography and watching TV.

Nyla’s greatest achievement so far has been earning an athletic scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University where she plans to play basketball. Michael Jordan is her sports hero and she revealed that Zendaya is her role model.

“Participating in high school athletics has given me life-long bonds with friends and has allowed me to gain leadership skills. It is fun and is something that makes me happy,” she noted.

Athletic Director Nate Baker said “Nyla is a natural born leader. She is a high-character person and a great teammate. She is a 4-year Varsity letter recipient and has committed to playing Basketball at Bowling Green State University.”

Principal Jeffrey Berk noted, “Nyla is a true representation of a student athlete. Not only does she excel on the basketball court, but also in the classroom and community. We are honored to have Nyla represent Wayne High School as the Penn Station Athlete of the Month!”

You may see Nyla at the Chambersburg Road Penn Station with a Philly Cheesesteak!

Congratulations, Nyla from all of us!
