Penn Station Athlete Of The Month For March, 2019 – Mikala Morris
Congratulations to the Penn Station Athlete of the Month for March, 2019, Mikala Morris! Mikala plays varsity volleyball and varsity basketball at Kenton Ridge High School in Springfield.
Mikala also participates in the LEO Club, FCCLA and AAU. She notes her greatest achievement so far as becoming the #1 rebounder in Ohio (boys/girls). She said her mother is her role model and her sports role model is Breanna Stewart.
Mikala plans on attending Quinnipiac University to play division 1 basketball. As for how high school athletics has benefited her, she said “it has made me more accountable, helped with leadership skills and has given me many friends. My dad signed me up for camp when I was 5 and ever since then I have loved the game.”
John Hill is Mikala’s high school principal. He said “Mikala has dedicated a lot of time and hard work to improve her game which has led to some great career milestones she has achieved this year. She is a leader on the team, and it shows with how she gets her teammates involved.”
Coach Matt McCurdy said “Mikala is a relentless worker who leads by example. She is extremely competitive, always striving to do her best and it shows ever tie she steps on the court.”
Mikala is the daughter of Regina Queen and Ben Morris. Megan Queen, Morgan Morris, Josh Queen, Ryan Queen and Jake Queen are her siblings.
The Penn Station in Springfield’s Chicken Teriyaki is one of her favorites! Congratulations, Mikala, from all of us for being named the Penn Station Athlete of the Month!
