Penn Station Athlete of the Month for October, 2019: Cora Cunningham

Congratulations to Cora Cunningham, the October, 2019 Penn Station Athlete of the Month!

Cora is a Senior carrying a 4.41 GPA at Archbishop Alter High School in Kettering and is the daughter of Colleen Cunningham and sister of Jonah Cunningham.

Cora’s sport is volleyball. She also participates in the National Honor Society Key Club, French Club, Academic Team, Alter Scholars, Envirothon, Newspaper Club, Student Ambassadors Volunteer, CYO Volleyball Coach and works at the local pool part-time and babysits frequently.

Cora says her greatest achievement so far are the results of her dedication to academics and athletics. After high school, she plans to play volleyball at Tufts University and study biochemistry.

Cora said, “I have established so many positive relationships that have allowed me to grow as an individual, teammate, student and athlete. My mom inspired me to play volleyball because she, too, played at Alter and continued her career in college. I also love the intensity and tempo of the sport.”

Coach Craig Erford said, “Cora is the epitome of what it means to be an Alter Knight. She strives for excellence in all aspects of her life, from academics to athletics as well as spiritually. She is a tremendous role model for the younger players in our program, and I feel blessed to be able to coach her!”

Principal Lourdes Lambert noted, “Cora has been a beautiful example of an Alter Knight. She is a faith-filled humble leader who exceeds on and off the volleyball court. Her quiet grace, kindness and compassion are an inspiration to others.”

Cora notes her role model as being her mom. She said Serena Williams is her sports hero. You might catch her at the Penn Station on Brown Street with her favorite Italian sub and her favorite book “All The Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr.

Congratulations, Cora from all of us on your honor!
