Tuesday’s Total Lunar Eclipse; Times, Best Places To Watch in Dayton

The second total lunar eclipse of the year will take place in the overnight hours of Tuesday morning. It will be visible all across Ohio and the Miami Valley; here are the key times and best places in the area to view the Blood Moon.

Times

The Moon will start disappear at about 4:09 a.m. EST, according to NASA. About an hour later, the Moon will appear a copper color, also commonly called a Blood Moon. This will last for roughly an hour and a half before the Moon begins to emerge from the shadow.

Where to Watch

No binoculars or special equipment will be needed to view this event. It is recommended to be in a rural area for the best viewing experience. According to NASA, “a dark environment away from bright lights makes for the best viewing conditions.” However, it can be viewed from anywhere in the area, weather permitting.

On November 8, 2022, the Moon will pass into Earth’s shadow and turn red. This will be the last total lunar eclipse for about 3 years, so be sure to check it out if it’s visible in your area.
